Richard B. Sandow
Mr. Sandow often tries complex cases, such as contract disputes, shareholder controversies, trade secret violations, supplier agreements, and more. He represents clients in complicated litigation before federal and state courts, federal and state agencies, and blue ribbon commercial arbitration panels. Mr. Sandow has won multi-million dollar verdicts for his family-owned business clients, including over $7 million dollars for Roth Computer Cash Register and Shenango Systems, and over $1.3 million dollars for T.G. Chemicals. As a trial attorney for major companies, such as LTV, Viacom, Westinghouse Electric Company, and Westinghouse Credit Corporation in litigation, he has recovered many millions of dollars for his clients.
Using his legal expertise, Mr. Sandow helps Pennsylvania businesses grow stronger so that they can bring more jobs to Western Pennsylvania. For over 30 years, he has played an instrumental role in assisting major business revitalization, start-ups, and expansion of operations for many companies, including Universal Stainless and Steel Alloy Products, Jennison Manufacturing Group, Jon Swan Industries, and Louis C. Glasso, Inc.
In addition to complex business litigation, Mr. Sandow has served as solicitor for New Sewickley Township. He was General Counsel to the Regulatory Compliance Association for Western Pennsylvania Financial Institutions, and has represented Iron and Glass Bank and Brentwood Bank.
Because of his extensive knowledge, Mr. Sandow has been asked to conducted numerous seminars and trainings on a variety of topics, including labor and employment law, banking regulations, and commercial business and real estate development issues.
Before joining Jones Gregg, Mr. Sandow worked for Susquehanna Legal Services and for Neighborhood Legal Services. He also clerked for the Honorable Dyer Justice Taylor of the District of Columbia Superior Court.
Mr. Sandow actively supports the growth of community and nonprofit groups. In 2009, Exceptional Parent Magazine honored his work on behalf of families with children with special needs. Mr. Sandow was presented with their EP Maxwell J. Schleifer Distinguished Service Award at the Pittsburgh Pirates Disability Awareness Night. As one of the organizers of the Western Pennsylvania Special Needs Children’s Alliance Rodeo and Exhibition, held in May 2012, Mr. Sandow continued to support children with special needs. He also provides representation for Off the Wall Productions and Off the Wall Charitable Trust, whose mission is to bring cutting edge theatre and dance to Carnegie, PA.
Mr. Sandow earned his Juris Doctor degree in 1978, graduating Order of the Coif from the National Law Center, George Washington University, in Washington, D.C. He also received the Van Vleck Moot Court Competition First Place Award. Mr. Sandow received his B.A. in Political Science and Communications from Queens College in 1975.
Mr. Sandow is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia. He is licensed to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Federal Claims, the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, the United States District Courts for the Middle and Western Districts of Pennsylvania, and the United States Courts of Appeal for the Third and Fourth Circuits. 123
