Mr. Sandow has won victories for local companies of over $7 million against a major computer cash register distributor, $4 million against an international construction company, and almost $2 million against a multi-national chemical supplier.

 

Using his knowledge of how judges examine commercial contracts, he has negotiated iron-clad agreements that produce maximum benefits for his business and individual clients.

John P. Corcoran, Jr.

Mr. Corcoran practices in the areas of business litigation, construction law, labor and employment law, copyright law, and immigration. His clients refer to Mr. Corcoran as a “tenacious bulldog” who puts their needs first, is very well-prepared, and has an impressive courtroom presence.

 

Mr. Corcoran obtained a verdict in excess of $215,000 in damages for a local dairy, with the jury sending the judge a note after closing arguments asking, “Can we award the plaintiff more damages than the plaintiff is asking?” He also won $127,000 in liquidated damages and $88,000 in compensatory damages for condominium owners against a major Pittsburgh real estate developer.

David A. Borkovic

Of Counsel

Mr. Borkovic practices in the areas of Marcellus Shale, business litigation, and construction. He has successfully prosecuted and defended hundreds of millions of dollars of commercial and corporate lawsuits throughout the United States. He has tried complex antitrust cases, construction claims, corporate takeover matters, and contractual disputes in state and federal courts, as well as in arbitration.

 

As a representative of landowners in Marcellus Shale oil and gas disputes, Mr. Borkovic provides his clients with the same level of sophisticated representation that the oil and gas companies receive from large law firms.  He recovered roughly $14 million from Rex Energy for Westmoreland County landowners, after the gas company failed to pay amounts due under oil and gas leases.

 

Mr. Borkovic is a 2015 Super Lawyer and has a Martindale-Hubbell lawyer rating of “AV Preeminent,” the highest possible rating. He is an adjunct professor at Duquesne University’s School of Law.

Thomas J. Dempsey, Jr.

A senior associate in our Pittsburgh office, Mr. Dempsey provides our clients with outstanding representation in the Allegheny County Orphans’ Court Division, as well as other Orphan’s Courts, where he litigates in the fields of guardianship, fiduciaries and estates. As an expert on Orphans’ Court practice and procedure, he has educated attorneys, laymen, and local hospitals’ medical and social work staff on guardianship issues. Mr. Dempsey is also skilled in civil litigation, having served as law clerk to both the Honorable Ronald W. Folino and the Honorable Bernard J. Mr. Johnson served as United States Attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania from 1981 to 1989. Since then, he has been in the private practice of law representing individuals being investigated and/or charged with tax evasion, alleged fraudulent activities, business crimes, and environmental crimes. Mr. Johnson is recognized by his peers as preeminent in the defense of white collar crime cases. Melaine Shannon Rothey

Ms. Rothey heads the firm’s Domestic Relations Department. She is a fellow in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, the premier organization for family lawyers in the United States. As an expert in domestic relations, she is frequently asked to speak on domestic relations issues, and teaches at least three or four Continuing Legal Education Courses on family law each year.

 

Ms. Rothey is the President of the Allegheny County Bar Association. She is a Patron Fellow of the Allegheny County Bar Foundation, and is on the Board of Directors of the Neighborhood Legal Services Association. Ms. Rothey has been a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer since 2005.

Honorable Anthony W. Saveikis

Of Counsel

Judge Saveikis was first elected Magisterial District Judge of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 2001, and was reelected in 2008. He serves the communities of North Fayette Township, Findlay Township, Oakdale, McDonald, and the Pittsburgh International Airport.

 

He has worked closely with the County Department of Economic Development and Aviation, and County row offices. Judge Saveikis has served as an arbitrator for the Court of Common Pleas and as court appointed counsel for indigent juveniles. Because of his court and government experience, he provides clients with insight into the inner workings of the court system, and state and local agencies.

 

In 2010, Judge Saveikis was appointed to the Agriculture Land Preservation Board, where he continues to serve today. He has been a guest lecturer at Duquesne University, Point Park University, and Penn State University.
